Hosting International Visiting Student

I am  Roseleena Anantanukulwong, a Ph.D. candidate in Science Education at the Division of Science Education, Kasetsart University, Thailand.

As part of my PhD programme, I visited the National Institute of Education, Singapore from February to June 2022 to do a research attachment under the supervision of A/P Tan Aik Ling, Deputy Head (Teaching & Curriculum Matters) of Natural Sciences & Science Education academic group.

A/P Tan and I shared a meal.

During my four months with NIE, I worked on two research manuscripts related to my PhD, attended classes taught by A/P Tan for undergraduates and graduates, and visited science classrooms in Singapore government and private schools. I was also able to participate in many activities organized by NIE and saw how meriSTEM@NIE is advancing Singapore's STEM teacher education and making it academically stronger.

From these experiences, I saw that teachers genuinely cared about their students’ learning. It also gave me the opportunity to share my experiences with Singapore's preservice teachers and to also learn about what is valued in STEM education in Singapore.

During my visit to a private Islamic school in Singapore, which I found to be similar to the school in Thailand where I teach, there was an exchange of ideas with the teachers which will lead to future collaboration even after I have returned to Thailand.

With A/P Tan and fellow graduate students in NIE.

My time with NIE provided me with a fulfilling academic and life experience, where I enjoyed learning with my Singaporean friends, and also from A/P Tan who has been so helpful in advising me on various issues that I feel like I am really her student here.
